Frederick Gaudreau scored two of Seattle’s four second-period goals as the Kraken pulled away to a 6-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. The win continued Seattle’s competitive start to the season and left Detroit still searching for consistency at home.
The first period ended level at 1-1 despite Detroit holding a large edge in shots. Viktor Arvidsson put the Red Wings ahead on the power play, tapping in a puck that trickled through, before Berkly Catton equalised with a backhander late in the period.
The game turned decisively in the second. After rookie William Wallinder restored Detroit’s lead with his first NHL goal, Gaudreau tied it 39 seconds later from short range. Mackie Samoskevich then put Seattle in front, Gaudreau added his second from the left circle, and Ben Meyers made it 5-2 before the period ended, chasing starting goaltender John Gibson.
Meyers finished with a goal and two assists, while Catton added a goal and an assist. Vince Dunn completed the scoring on a two-man advantage in the third period. Philipp Grubauer made 38 saves for Seattle, surviving Detroit’s early pressure to close out the win.
There were consolations for the home side. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard also scored his first NHL goal, and Arvidsson found the net for a third straight game. But a four-goal second period proved too much to overcome, and the Red Wings slipped further behind in the early standings.
