Indian equities rebounded on Friday, October 9, after two sessions of sharp losses, with the Sensex rising about 829 points intraday and the Nifty reclaiming 22,500, according to reports. The move gave markets a firmer footing at the end of a difficult stretch, with buyers returning most visibly in information technology shares.

The Sensex rose about 829 points, or 1.16 percent, to around 72,422 intraday. The Nifty climbed about 274 points, or 1.23 percent, taking the index back above the 22,500 level. Those intraday figures describe the strength of the recovery during the session, reversing the tone set by the two preceding sessions of sharp losses.

Information technology stocks led the rebound. TCS gained about 5 percent after reporting September-quarter net profit up 15 percent to ₹13,884 crore, according to reports. A result of that size from a heavyweight constituent gave the technology pack a clear anchor for the day, and the stock’s rise set the pace for the wider sector.

The Nifty IT index climbed more than 3 percent, underlining how concentrated the leadership was. While the headline indices moved up by a little more than 1 percent each, the technology gauge rose considerably faster, pointing to selective buying rather than an even move across the board. For traders, the session read as a technology-led recovery within a broader market rebound.

Sentiment was also supported by energy prices. Brent crude eased about 1.11 percent to around $103 a barrel, according to reports, removing some pressure from the day’s trading mood. Softer crude alongside stronger technology earnings helped explain the calmer tone after two sessions of sharp losses.

By the measures reported on the day, October 9 marked a clear change of direction: the Sensex up about 829 points intraday, the Nifty back over 22,500, the Nifty IT index ahead more than 3 percent and TCS higher by about 5 percent on its quarterly profit rise. Whether the rebound holds will depend on the sessions that follow, but Friday’s trading restored ground that the previous two sessions had taken away.
