LYNN — A suspect in the Dec. 26 shooting that wounded three people at the Pizza Hut on State Street has been arrested in Lauderhill, Fla., the Lynn Police Department said in a statement Friday.
Lynn Police Lt. Rick Connick said that 19-year-old William Baez was arrested earlier this week. Connick added that Baez is currently being held at the Broward County Jail in Florida, pending rendition.
The release states that Baez has been charged with armed assault with three counts of intent to murder.
It added that Baez was captured through a collaborative effort by the United States Marshals Service’s Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Lynn Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.
“We want to thank our law enforcement partners and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this investigation and ensuring justice is sought for the victims of this horrific crime,” the release reads.
On Dec. 26 at approximately 8:32 p.m., the Lynn Police Department received a call that three victims were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the Pizza Hut on State Street. A press release from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office two day later stated that the victims had been transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with various injuries, but were in stable condition.
On Jan. 4, the Lynn Police Department announced in a statement that 18-year-old Delvin Sanchez was taken into custody on Jan. 3 by representatives from the Lynn Police Department, the Peabody Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police for his alleged connection with the Dec. 26 shooting.
Sanchez was arrested in Peabody on warrant charges of armed assault with intent to murder, accessory before the fact, and accessory after the fact.
Connick said that the investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing.
